Our NGO’s Board Members in 2025–2026

Britt-Kathleen Mere

Chairman

I live in Tartu, the Finno-Ugric mecca, where my daily work focuses on digital solutions designed for Finno-Ugric languages and dialects. My roots connect me to Saarde and Rapla parishes, as well as historical Livonia. As a founding member of Hõimulõimed, I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in the organisation from the very beginning, shaping its direction and introducing our activities to a broader audience. My heart belongs to music, which is why I’m active in the band Kännu Peal Käbi as a vocalist-jauramist. Additionally, I’ve worked on making kindred peoples’ music more accessible by organising Finno-Ugric discos and creating Uralic-language playlists on music streaming platforms. The future belongs to the next generations; therefore in my work I am especially committed to creating opportunities for young people to take action and contribute to the well-being of our kindred peoples.

Mirjami Sipilä

Secretary

I am a Finn and come from Southwest Finland. I study Finno-Ugric linguistics at the University of Turku. Currently I’m living in Tartu, which has been a city as dear to me as Turku since 2023. I am particularly interested in Finnic language contacts, the language of songs and popular science. I have experience with these topics at the Finnish Literature Society, where I have worked with folklore material. For me, Hõimulõimed means a valuable opportunity to bring Finno-Ugric topics closer to people and keep ties with other kindred peoples alive.

Margaret Pärli

Treasurer

I am currently in my final year of high school in Tallinn. I have roots in both Mulgimaa and Setomaa, lands of the indigenous South Estonians. The existence of peoples and languages related to Estonian has piqued my interest from a very young age, but in recent years I have started to actively seek and find outlets for my interest in Finno-Ugric studies – this is how I came to join Hõimulõimed in 2024. I am learning Finnish, Livonian and Votic on my own and I spread awareness of Finno-Ugric peoples and their situation among my peers. Having joined Hõimulõimed, I have found like-minded people with whom I can have in-depth conversations on Finno-Ugric topics and with whom I have the opportunity to strengthen the identity of kindred peoples in society at large.
